Update to Covenant Orthodox Presbyterian Church

We have been working for a few years with an amazing group of individuals at Covenant Orthodox Presbyterian Church whom have stuck together and remained committed to a long-term building campaign and so with our first site visit today it's gratifying to see the building progress. A portion of Covenants mission is to be a place of new beginnings with it’s roots in the past. We hope this is illustrated in our design as it resembles our intent. Working with an established building to provide increased accessibility, better restrooms, a drive-up canopy, a kitchen that supports the Church and its communal mission, a new toddler room, supportive office spaces and a defined narthex area are just some of the renovations which will rejuvenate the building.

Final Walk-thru Starbucks - Greenfield

 Greenfield, Wisconsin

We completed our final walk-thru for Starbucks today. It's another significant design transformation for our team! You would never know that this was a former rundown gas station. But if you look closely you can still see the previous white masonry building shell (now painted beige). That's about all that is distinguishable between the old and the new. #rewardingcareer  #Architecture

The Suffrage Movement

 Who doesn't love a surprise?

Today we had a visitor from the Waukesha County Historical Society. We knew our office building that we share with Orange Hat Publishing was once the home of the Waukesha Freeman but today we learned more about that important moment in history 100 years ago and the suffrage movement that occurred during that time.

If our building could talk what story could it tell?

Studying the dates we suspect Theodora Youmans and her husband spent a lot of time in our building during the suffrage movement. #waukeshahistory

Today we completed our final inspection and turned over another major building transformation. It was a 1.5 year journey with Animal Wellness of Waukesha to transform an old tired inefficient building into a state of the art veterinary practice! Photos show how the building looked before, our vision for the design and results. Final touches of site landscaping, planters and signage will be completed in a few weeks. We look forward to final photos of this impressive makeover..... #AnimalWellness #Veterinary #Architecture

Unique Client Concerns and Our Solutions During Covid Crisis

We wanted to take a few minutes to share some of the diverse real world situations that we are assisting our clients with as they tackle solutions to their building operations during this pandemic and plan for the months ahead.  Client concerns and questions are indicated in bold.

What is the occupant load of our space? And how do we calculate an occupant reduction?:
We have been assisting clients in providing code analysis and computing numbers on their code allowed occupancy versus a 25% to 50% capacity.

How can we layout our furniture and space to address social distancing?:
We have been offering design guidance on the spacing and adjustments needed to the interior layout of furniture and equipment to improve social distancing.  This has included things such as adding separation features such as plexi-glass panels to encouraging different furnishing/seating/equipment arrangements in public assembly spaces.

How can we change the building floor plan to improve our need for isolation of our staff and patrons?:
We have been assisting clients in the planning and approvals to add private restrooms.  Opening up lobby areas and moving reception areas.  Designing spaces to encourage one way traffic flow.

How can we begin to have family visitors in our Senior Care setting?:
We have been assisting Senior Care providers in designing family isolation rooms some complete with separate building entrances, sinks for hand washing, plexi-panel walls and in some cases modifying the HVAC system to create air exchange isolation.

With so much uncertainty it's hard to focus on where our business wants to be next year?
With both the prognosis for a vaccine and herd immunity we expect this crisis will have passed in roughly 10-18 months from now (5/2020).  Many of our clients are now realizing during this partial or complete shutdown this is actually the ideal time to renovate and plan for a bigger and brighter 2021.  Knowing it takes months and sometimes even years from the day they start a project concept to completion of that project many of our clients have begin planning today for next year.  Our savvy clients are seeing this time as an opportunity to remodel, reposition and build while staff and patrons are limited or not onsite.  The entrepreneurial spirit is alive!

We have seen an increase in our need for local supply chain and manufacturing.  Can you assist us with developing our operations?:
A shift is occurring in the supply chain, global transports have become more challenging, the stability of international trade has become more uncertain, the dependence on international supplies in a pandemic have been challenged.  Thus for the long range stability our clients need manufacturing in many regions.  We have seen an emerging market in suppliers of cleaning supplies, personal protective equipment, agriculture, equipment manufacturers and product delivery transport systems for product delivery (such as conveyors).  Providing FAST PACED design with our construction partners has been the secret to assisting many companies looking to react quickly to address the supply chain and changing market demands.

Especially in these times we hold true to our Mission which is to apply passionately our artistic talents with high integrity, loyalty and servitude; ensuring our CLIENTS Thrive. Visit us at https://thrive-architects.com/

Project Update from Jeremy Bartlett - Firm Principal

So excited for the opportunity and thankful to have this project coming out of the ground! To have a client trust us based on our knowledge, experience and track record is so rewarding. Professionally it's taken a very long time to climb the mountain. Twenty Seven years in fact. It often feels like I am alone on this climb and it's impossible. But than I get a moment like this and I see the Summit. For an Architect there's added solace after so many years investing in the craft and honing their skills in a lifelong sacrifice of time and energy. Most Architects are just waiting for that opportunity to show what they are capable of. A landslide or life storm might take away our chance to see the dream fulfilled. Perhaps it's just another unnoticed building you will drive past. But for an Architect that building provides an overwhelming feeling of accomplishment. It's reaching the pinnacle achievement. Our completed projects speak to me and say all of that sacrifice was worth it. And to that I say keep climbing that mountain, set your goal and don't let any obstacle get in the way of your dreams! hashtagarchitecture hashtagarchitects hashtagarchitect
